Welcome to the African American Cancer Epidemiology
Study (AACES) Website
AACES is a research study seeking to better understand the causes of ovarian cancer in
African American women.
Why AACES?
- Ovarian cancer is the 5th most common cause of death from cancer in women.
- AACES is the first study to focus on ovarian cancer in African Americans.
- African American women have worse survival than White women after a diagnosis of ovarian cancer.
The reason for this is not known.
Who will be in AACES?
- 1000 African American women with a recent diagnosis of ovarian cancer and 1000 women who have
never had the disease.
- Eligible women will be contacted by the study team directly through a letter in the mail.
- Women in AACES will be from 9 states: Alabama, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Michigan, New Jersey,
Ohio, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
By comparing women with and without ovarian cancer, we hope to learn more about the causes
of this disease.
