Translational research involves using novel laboratory findings to develop clinical applications and practical advances in health care as quickly as possible. As Director of Translational Research within the Center, Dr. Keir is primarily responsible for maintaining a productive working relationship between the laboratory and clinic teams. He plays an important role in the following:
- establishing collaborative relationships with experts in the field of neuro-oncology and pharmaceutical companies,
- serving as the liaison between internal and external development teams during collaborations,
- assisting in the identification, design and conduct of preclinical development studies, and
- working closely with the Office of Science and Technology to expedite the transfer of confidentiality agreements and material transfers.
Dr. Keir received his master’s and doctoral degrees in Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and has been employed at the Center for the last 16 years.
