The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke

For Pediatric Patients | Transitions Program
Things to Consider Booklet

Patients and family members at The Brain Tumor Center at Duke can receive helpful information about care at the end of life through our Transitions program. The Transitions packet contains information that will help to ease the transition from curative treatment to palliative or hospice care. Included in each packet is a booklet to help parents talk with their children about the challenges and changes the family will face while caring for a loved one with a terminal illness. For the families of pediatric patients, Things to consider…when your child has a terminal illness, will provide invaluable information and support to parents seeking ways to discuss honestly and openly the sensitive issues surrounding the terminal illness of a loved one. Patients should talk to their Brain Tumor Center care provider to receive a Transition packet.

Things to consider…when your child has a terminal illness may be purchased individually or in bulk by those who are not Duke patients. You can fill out and print our order form. (Acrobat Reader is required to view this document. If you do not have Acrobat Reader, please visit the Adobe website and download it for free.)

For information on how to use children’s books to facilitate discussion between you and your child on issues such as illness and grief read Books As A Resource for Children.
