Moul Appointed to AJCC

Judd Moul, MD, was recently appointed to the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) representing the American Urological Association. The AJCC was established in 1959 to formulate and publish systems of classification of cancer, including staging and end results reporting, which will be acceptable to and used by the medical profession for selecting the most effective treatment, determining prognosis, and continuing evaluation of cancer control measures. The AJCC is comprised of six founding organizations, four sponsoring organizations, and eleven liaison organizations.

Hsu and Potti Win V Foundation Award

September 2, 2009--S. David Hsu, MD, PhD, and Anil Potti, MD, have received a translational grant from The V Foundation for their research on "Development of a paraffin-based assay to predict patients with early stage colorectal cancer at high risk for recurrence." The award is for $600,000 over three years.

Cuticchia Receives $3.4 M Grant

A. Jamie Cuticchia, PhD, JD, Duke Bioinformatics Scholar in the Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center, recently received a $3.4 million grant from the National Cancer Institute to continue work on C3PR and release version 3 of the software. Cancer Central Clinical Participant Registry (C3PR) is a Web-based application for managing clinical trial data across multiple cancer clinical trials and trial sites. Cancer Center Information Systems Director Bob Annechiarico manages the project.

Moul Receives Clinical Excellence Award

Judd W. Moul, MD, FACS, James H. Semans, MD, professor of surgery, chief of the Division of Urology, and director of the Duke Prostate Center, is one of only three physicians nationally who received a 2009 Clinical Excellence Award from Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. The award recognizes physicians who exemplify excellence in clinical medical practice.

Dewhirst Named ASTRO Fellow

July 29, 2009--Cancer Center member Mark Dewhirst, DVM, PhD, has been named a 2009 Fellow of the American Society for Radiation Oncology. Members of ASTRO are eligible to become a Fellow if they have been part of the Society for at least 20 years, have served in a leadership role for the organization and have made a significant contribution to the field of radiation oncology. The primary pathways to becoming a Fellow are excellence in research, patient care, education and leadership/service.
