Stem Cell Laboratory (STCL)
The Stem Cell Laboratory is affiliated with both the pediatric and adult stem cell transplant programs.

This equipment is used for Umbilical Cord Blood (UCB) processing.

The biological safety cabinet is used to maintain sterility for progenitor cell assays.

Samples are aliquoted from each UCB unit prior to storage (to be used for future testing).

This represents one of the final stages of UCB processing before the UCB unit is frozen.

This is a picture of the UCB unit prepared for freezing.

UCB units are frozen in the Thermogenesis Bioarchive Freezer.

Each freezer has a computer which tracks information about each UCB sample (barcodes, storage locations).

Cells in the presence of certain cytokines can be expanded in hopes of providing more cells for patient infusions. This is done using the Aastrom Biosciences Replicell Systems.

Differentials are performed on blood smears in the laboratory.

Plasma samples are tested on the Vitros chemistry analyzer.

Specimens are prepared prior to flow cytometry analysis and aquisition.

Specimens are analyzed and aquired on the flow cytometry instrument.
