Hai Yan, MD, PhD



Hai Yan, M.D., Ph.D. received his M.D. degree from the Beijing University Health Science Center in 1991, and his Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular Biology from Columbia University in 1996. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at the Johns Hopkins University from 1997 to 2002, under the tutelage of Dr. Bert Vogelstein. 

Dr. Yan was recruited to Duke and joined the faculty of the Department of Pathology as an Assistant Professor in 2003. He has served as an investigator at the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center and the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation Institute at Duke since his arrival at Duke. 

Dr. Yan is a former Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation Scholar and Southeastern Brain Tumor Foundation Research Scholar. He was the recipient of The V Foundation Cancer Research Award in 2005, and the Brain Tumor Society’s 2008 Eliza Lorberbaum Chair of Research Award. 

Dr. Yan’s areas of research interests include systematic oncogenomic profiling of malignant gliomas, identification of novel molecular alterations in medulloblastoma, identification of pathogen DNAs in cancer genome, and GBM functional genomic studies.
